Blood Sucking Vampires the key to Long Life – Blood Transfusions from the Young may keep YOU Young!

Blood Sucking Vampires the key to Long Life – Blood Transfusions from the Young may keep YOU Young!

Leviticus 17:11 “For the life of the flesh is in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls: for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul.”

It appears Dracula may have been onto something when he drank the blood of young maidens to stop him ageing.

Older people given transfusions of blood from younger adults are at a lower risk of cancer, dementia and heart disease, new research shows.

In groundbreaking trials on humans, scientists appear to have confirmed the long-standing myth that such injections can reverse ageing.

Ambrosia, a start-up firm based in San Francisco, has been testing the horror-movie inspired technique to assess its benefits.

It is similar to that of former North Korean dictator Kim Il-Sung who was said to take blood from people in their twenties to try to live to 100.

Ramadan in the Philippines: Islamic State jihadis storm Manila hotel, gunfire, explosions

UPDATE: The Filipino police say that the perpetrator was a lone robber, not Islamic State jihadis. The Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the attack.

“Tourists shot in ISIS hotel attack: Terrified guests jump from second-floor windows and dozens are injured as Islamists storm Philippines resort popular with Westerners,” by Rachael Burford, Mailonline, June 1, 2017:

Dozens of tourists are feared injured after ISIS gunmen opened fire at a hotel resort near Manila airport.

The shooting started at the popular Resorts World Manila in Pasay City, Philippines at about midnight local time and terrified witnesses described a ‘two hour’ onslaught of gunfire.

Explosions were also heard coming from the tourist hotpot and bloodied victims were seen being stretchered out of the building.

At least one masked gunman reportedly stormed the second floor of one of the complex’s four hotels and fired at guests and staff.

Other witnesses reported ‘armed masked men’ in the building’s casino. Footage, posted on social media, shows guests fleeing as gunshots ring out across the resort.

ISIS have claimed responsibility for the attack.

Kara Verano filmed people running and described a ‘teargas burning’ substance in the air as she and her friends hid in a ‘restaurant storeroom’.

Writing on Facebook she said: ‘We were just eating at Bulgogi when we heard gunshots other customers said that there were men coming out of the casino wearing masks and armed.

‘We got stuck in the restaurant’s storage room for almost two hours with continuous gunshots coming from outside and smell something is burning.. I wasn’t sure if it was a teargas or something is actually burning.. it was as if impossible to breakout.’

Kentron Lopez, who works in the resort, described people jumping from escalators as they tried to escape.

Writing on social media, he said: ‘Some jumped out from escalators and the second floor to get out.

‘We were few of the remaining people who [got] out of the vicinity. I can only imagine how the rest felt.’

Crowds of people ran from the complex as smoke billowed from the roof of one of the hotels, where the second floor is on fire.

Resorts World Manila is opposite Terminal 3 of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport, and is one of the busiest airport terminals in the country.

‘I heard many, many gunshots,’ Julio Silva, a witness who managed to dash out of the mall complex, told DZMM radio network.

The incident is unfolding amid a 10-day deadly siege by Muslim militants aligned to the Islamic State group in the southern city of Marawi.

The attack has sparked fears that the militants may attack elsewhere to divert the focus of thousands of troops trying to quell the siege. …

Feminist researcher invents ‘intersectional quantum physics’ to fight ‘oppression’ of Newton

‘Binary and absolute differences’ are ‘exploitative’

A feminist academic affiliated with the University of Arizona has invented a new theory of “intersectional quantum physics,” and told the world about it in a journal published by Duke University Press.

Whitney Stark argues in support of “combining intersectionality and quantum physics” to better understand “marginalized people” and to create “safer spaces” for them, in the latest issue of The Minnesota Review.

Because traditional quantum physics theory has influenced humanity’s understanding of the world, it has also helped lend credence to the ongoing regime of racism, sexism and classism that hurts minorities, Stark writes in “Assembled Bodies: Reconfiguring Quantum Identities.”

A researcher in culture and gender studies at Utrecht University in the Netherlands, Stark also holds an appointment in women’s and gender studies at the University of Arizona through its Institute for LGBT Studies.

She is a member of the Somatechnics Research Network, hosted by UA, whose scholars “reflect on the mutual inextricability of embodiment and technology.”

Stark identifies Newtonian physics as one of the main culprits behind oppression. “Newtonian physics,” she writes, has “separated beings” based on their “binary and absolute differences.”

“This structural thinking of individualized separatism with binary and absolute differences as the basis for how the universe works is embedded in many structures of classification,” according to Stark.

These structures of classification, such as male/female, or living/non-living, are “hierarchical and exploitative” and are thusly “part of the apparatus that enables oppression.”

Therefore, Stark argues in favor of combining intersectionality and quantum physics theory to fight against the imperative to classify people based on hierarchical categories.

Mathematical Inqueery

Mathematical Inqueery

  • Kai Rands

Abstract

Mathematical inqueery, drawing on queer theory, interrogates the “regimes of the normal” (Warner, The trouble with normal: Sex, politics, and the ethics of queer life. New York: The Free Press, 1993) in mathematics and mathematics education. It is not merely the inclusion of queer students and issues into the curriculum, but instead consists of questioning the tasks, strategies, and ways of thinking about and doing mathematics. In this chapter, the author discusses some of the ways queering mathematics and mathematics pedagogy have been taken up in the author’s teaching and scholarship such as by queering geometry, mathematical rhetoric/argumentation, and time.
